Now, more than ever, we have information to justify why we do this demanding (yet extremely rewarding) activity. Experts have concluded that the study of music helps with spatial reasoning, test taking, and overall quality of life! Factor in social skills, emotional development, leadership training, group interaction, aesthetic perception, music making, and the discipline of being in a band program, and I don’t know why anyone would not want to be involved in a successful band program like the one here at Hempfield! The ultimate goal is a lifelong understanding and appreciation for quality music and music making!

OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLES
Each member of the band program must at all times strive to be the best that he or she can be. These principles are a means to guide the journey, quantify goals, evaluate achievements, and focus the direction on continual success.
Excellence
In all that we do we achieve excellence. We perform with excellence. We rehearse with excellence. We are well prepared and in the right frame of mind. We treat each other and the community with dignity and honor. When we are focused, disciplined, dedicated, thoughtful, understanding, and artistic – then our continual growth towards higher levels of excellence becomes the standard.
Experience
Stakeholders approach each performing ensemble as a powerful and developmental opportunity to gain experience that is musical, artistic, educational, emotional, and social. A varsity of experiences will be available, promoting leadership, citizenship, creativity, critical thinking, self-discipline, and teamwork. The display of maturity and wisdom is a sign of positive and impactful life experiences.
Enjoyment
There is no enjoyment quite like that of an excellent performance. A great concert is satisfying. Hard work is enjoyable as we are causing our bodies and minds to reach new levels of competency. We find joy in our excellent experiences – as growth, passion, and deep bonds take shape and form the core what it means to be a member of the Hempfield Bands.
